Activites - Sport Complexes

St. George can boast that it has some of the best amateur sport facilities in the Western United States. This allows area residents and visitors to pursue many recreational activities throughout the year.

For example, The Canyons - named "Softball Complex of the Year" by the National Softball Association for five consecutive years - has nine fields along with paths and other amenities. However, one of the best features of the complex is the backdrop of Snow Canyon with its reddish hues and desert landscape. It is a favorite venue for softball leagues and events; 30 tournaments call this their home. For instance, the complex is used annually as a softball venue for the Huntsman World Senior Games. There are also softball facilities in Hurricane and Washington.

The Sand Hollow Aquatic Center also adds to the recreational theme of the area. It is an enclosed facility that has a competition and leisure pool. The leisure pool has water slides and toys for children, but the entire family will enjoy it. The Huntsman World Senior Games also hosts its swimming events here. The St. George City Pool & Hydrotube is a favorite summer spot for city residents because kids really enjoy the double hydro-slide. Many city parks offer recreational amenities. For instance, sand volleyball pits are at Cox and Vernon Worthen parks and at the Sand Hollow Aquatic Center. Horseshoes are also popular at Vernon Worthen Park.

The recreational facilities at area schools and at Dixie State College are also available for public use.
